Hayley & Michael’s early spring wedding
at Sun Mountain Lodge in Winthrop, Washington was calm, intentional, and centered on simply being together. With snow still sitting in the mountains, their day felt peaceful and unhurried. They chose a soft palette of cream, tan, lavender, and faded purples that blended naturally with the landscape, letting the surrounding mountain views do most of the work. Nothing about the day felt overdone—it was simple, elegant, and shaped by the place they were in.
One of my favorite parts of the day was sunset, when we hiked partway up the mountain for portraits. It was one of those quiet in-between moments—after dinner and speeches, before the energy picked up for dancing. Michael spotted a grouse along the trail and instantly lit up, racing ahead with pure excitement, while Hayley laughed and watched him, her dress gathered in her hands as she climbed behind him with Jennifer (my assistant). That moment said so much about them. At the top, we stood on the edge of the mountain as the sky shifted through soft pinks and purples, snow-capped peaks behind them. We tossed flower petals, they kissed, and for a few minutes everything slowed down.
This wedding felt like it was made for an elegant adventurer—fancy clothes paired with hiking boots, walking through snow and mud, standing in creeks, warming up by the lodge fire, and celebrating without pressure or excess. It was also my first destination wedding, and the road trip up with Jen is a memory I’ll always smile about (including the unexpected turn-around to swap vehicles when our first one overheated and wasn’t up for the journey).
